The Senate Democrats are poised to pass a so-called “trimmed down” version (if $800 million can be called that) of the stimulus bill on Tuesday and President Obama hits the road to sell the package. Public support of the stimulus bill has dropped below 40 percent in most polls and continues to fall as Republicans have done a great job exposing it for what it reality is – A Democrat Spending bill. The bill has less than 10% true stimulus spending.
This is a gift to Republicans . . .
President Obama and the Congressional leaders could have brought the Republicans in and forged a bi-partisan bill that would have made the Republicans irrelevant once again.
Instead, the Dems have clearly defined the parties: Democrats are the tax and spenders. Republicans are once again the party of lower taxes and fiscal responsibility. Thank you Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi.
There are many analysis of the bill out there. But my favorite is by the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office. According to the CBO, the economic recovery package will actually hurt the economy more in the long run than if nothing was done!
